When you have 'free time' such as many of us find ourselves having these last 11 months, you have time to reflect and peruse the layers of your mind deeply. Spending so much time home helps you to look at things from a different perspective.
Sure. You see the dust bunnies giving your raspberries. But, you also see wisps of your shadow self from behind every corner...
When we put down our smart devices and stop to take a breath, we see the things that we may have been too busy to see before. Or, we turned away quickly to ignore.
I've been right there with you! So much so, I made two residence moves in 2020. This was both cathartic and liberating. On the heels of the second move, pieces of my life that I had shoved into a small dark corner of my mind came crashing through into my waking reality.
I happened to catch Dr. Mark Hyman on TV and listened, as I packed boxes, as he spoke about the 'food' we eat here in the West -- the fast food, the processed food, the food that's filled with chemicals. I packed faster and lowered the volume.
Dr. Hyman spoke about getting rid of refined sugars from our diet and eating -- gasp -- lots of veggies, vegetable and fruit juices that are freshly squeezed and sourced locally.
My packing slowed and I turned the volume back up so I wasn't right on top of the television screen.
He spoke about his book, I noted the name, Food Fix, a book about food and what we could eat to better our health, lose weight and help the planet. Needless to say, I stopped watching and began researching Dr. Hyman, and his books and saw his 2018 bestseller, Food: What the Heck Should I Eat? and laughed out loud. The very question I had been asking myself for some years now.
As I dug deeper and read reviews of these two books, I began reading tangential comments from the reviewers about gut health and how many of the things Dr. Hyman spoke of related back to our gut biome. Jeannette Hydes' books kept popping up over several reviews: The Gut Makeover. I began reviewing her books and reviews and something began to unravel deep in my mind. Behaviors and things that I thought were just normal were being put on blast as symptoms of leaky gut.
I was like, Whhhhaaatt??!!
Exactly what I thought -- oh, you knew about leaky gut? Why didn't you tell me about it??! :-)
It took me about 3 days to buy Ms. Hyde's book and the companion recipe book. And her books naturally led me to Dr. Josh Axe's new book, Eat Dirt.
You're like, okay, what's the skinny on all this?
Simple. If you have a bunch of food allergies, eczema, psoriasis, IBS, get a lot of colds/sniffles, are always tired (dare I say it, have low energy), or have an autoimmune condition, you very well could actually have leaky gut syndrome, or the proper medical term for it is: increased intestinal permeability. This is when the tight junctures (the barrier) of our guts to open more than normal. This allow large particles into the bloodstream that do not belong there such as undigested pieces of food, or bacteria. These foreign bodies then are attacked by your immune system to keep you from harm. But, since we continue eating things that make the junctions open, we have a chronic situation of these 'foreign' particles getting into our bloodstream. This creates a situation of chronic inflammation all over the body which wreaks a lot of havoc on us and our bodies giving rise the issues mentioned above.
Being home helped me to connect dots. My inner spiritual reflections that lead to me moving, also led me to look deeper into what I thought was a chronic set of conditions that I just had to live with; it was my lot in life. Spirit wanted to bring to my attention that this may not be the case. In a 2019 reading, it came out that a deeper connection with my Spirits would lead me to a holistic 'cure' that would bring me back into a state of balance with Nature. At that time, it sounded like a bunch of pretty words with no substance. You know, how a lot of readings sound initially! :-)
Looking back, it truly was a strengthening of my bond with spirit that brought me to this point.
Long story short, I am shifting my diet to include pre- and probiotics. I'm releasing refined sugars from my diet more and more, and and I am incorporating a coconut kefir shake each day which is filled with good gut bacteria. I'm also (impatiently) awaiting my gut biome testing kit. This will give me the specifics on my nutrient levels, the level of inflammation markers in my body, and most importantly, the types of bacteria in my gut. The mix should be 85% good (and neutral) bacteria to 15% bad bacteria. If this ratio is off, then we begin having issues. the more off it is, the more issues we could experience.
So, 2021 started off with a big bang for me; a wholly spiritual/emotional/healing bang. And for this, I am ever thankful to my spiritual family for nudging me along to better health.
Blessings up,
Zurri
