Does It Matter in Which Cardinal Direction You Sleep?

I first came across the idea of sleeping in a specific cardinal direction over twenty years ago. The ideology came from a Khamitic (Ancient Egyptian) philosophy. Each direction was governed by a specific deity (spiritual entity) and each person was governed (crowned) by a deity. Therefore, the deity you are governed by would inform the direction in which your head faces as you sleep.

Of course, coming to this idea fresh from the ‘regular’ world, I said – Poppycock!

Uh-huh.

Here I am many moons later, in a new space, and cannot find restful sleep no matter what I do. So, I toss and turn, and toss some more. Until – Bing! – something whispers – What direction are you sleeping in?

I go – Uh, DUUHHH…!

I flip and put my head in the east and within a few minutes I felt a ratcheting down of the maddening inability to sleep even though I was ready to doze. It felt just like a big tiger being lulled into sleep by lovely strands of music.

In this Khamitic system, I worked with The Metu Neter, Vol 1, by Ra Un Nefer Amen. Beginning on page 265, the section entitled The Metutu, you will find the spiritual, and the mundane, cardinal directions to use for your various needs.

In order to know which deity governs you, traditionally, a Sidereal Astrology chart was done using the exact time and location of your birth. However, if you don’t have that, you can review the traits of each deity and see which one you most align with, that you have had clear and distinct experiences with, and it will be that deity’s spiritual direction you should use for your sleep direction. If the spiritual direction does not feel right, try the mundane direction of that deity.

Here is the list of deities, and their directions.

Please note: Amen, Ausar and Geb do not have any specific cardinal directions.

The Metutu

Tehuti: The mouthpiece of God; the one who knows all things; the one who wipes Heru’s eye clean so that Heru can see Truth and rule/govern effectively, and efficiently. Tehuti is the one who receives knowledge from Ausar (God/Osiris/Oludumare) and transmits that information to those that seek Tehuti (Thoth) for advice, and/or counsel. A 3D role of Tehuti is a wise judge. Not just someone who has seen it all, but someone who is able to discern the inner motivations and get to the heart of the matter.

Spiritual Direction: Southeast

Mundane Direction: West

Seker: The foundation of things; the skeleton; the blueprint. The seated hawk whose energy is ‘cold’ meaning, that Seker functions based on what is inherently Truth; the structure of things. While one can fly in one’s mind, it is not the structure of things for humans to jump off a building and fly. It is not their inherent structure, whereas a pigeon, or a cardinal, is structured/is built to fly.

Spiritual Direction: East

Mundane: Southwest

Maat: Maat is the deity of unconditional love; giving seeking nothing in return. Her point of view is simple. When you give/share/help others, it is as If you take money from your left pocket, and put it in your right pocket. Maat is in the second triad on the tree of life, on the human sphere, but her perspective is quite lofty. Maat gives us a bird’s eye view of life, and all of the aspects of life. It is as if she is the Master Organizer, using Seker’s blueprint, to bring things together. (Each sphere builds off of one another.)

Spiritual Direction: Southeast

Mundane: West

Herukhuti: Herukhuti is the deity that creates a path where there was none previously. He goes in and chops down the trees, the bushes, and the bramble. He creates the town/village/city. He is the one that defends/protects those within. Herukhuti represents might, the military, but Herukhuti is just. As with all deities, the energies can be used in its positive states, or its negative states.

Spiritual Direction: North

Mundane Direction: Southeast

Heru: Heru is the King. He is the leader, the one who delegates. The one who when he cannot defeat his brother Set, he goes to Tehuti to wipe his eye clean so that he can see the Truth and do what is right and just for himself, and those he leads. Without going to Tehuti (therefore, going to Ausar), Heru does not win. Heru has a balanced disposition and is able to think on his feet, while not allowing his emotions to color his/her decision-making.

Spiritual Direction: West

Mundane Direction: Northeast

Het-Heru: Het-Heru is the house of Heru (literally what the name means). Therefore, in order to delegate well, the ‘house’, or the body/vehicle, needs to be healthy, happy, well rested, well nourished, etc. Het-Heru is joyful. She is beautiful, she is harmonious and is charming. All of these things are needed in order to have full vitality, to enjoy life and let things slide off of you. Everything cannot be held close, or else it will affect the health negatively. All things in moderation. This is who Het-Heru is; what she is about. She is associated with the beauty industry, fashion, design, etc.

Spiritual Direction: Southwest

Mundane Direction: North

Sebek: Sebek is a well-known deity. He is known as Anansi, the Trickster, and has a reputation for keeping one on one’s toes. Sebek is neither good, nor bad – he just is. He can talk you into things, as well as to talk you out of things. In his positive state, Sebek is a lawyer and in his mature stage, he is a just judge (having seen it all!). In his negative state, he is a thief, a conman, a rebel-rouser, a cheat.

Spiritual Direction: Northeast

Mundane Direction: South

Auset: Auset is the deity of nurturing, motherliness, kindness, caring and taking care of those who cannot take care of themselves. She is generally known for her self-lessness. The negative side of this is Auset will care for others to the detriment of herself. The mother that worries incessantly about her children; works for the best for her family/her children and puts herself in harms way through not caring for herself, or her own health. This can be rectified by paying attention to eating healthily, resting and, most importantly, by getting regular exercise.

Spiritual Direction: East

Mundane Direction: Northwest

The above descriptions are only a small smattering of the information there is out in the world about these deities. I encourage you to research the deities that speak most to you and gain a fuller understanding about the deity. This will ensure that you will light upon the best direction for you to sleep.
