Years ago when I was a pre-teen, I had my first brush with the Law of Attraction (LOA), and/or faith in a bountiful universe.
I grew up in a very Christian home with a grandmother who was one of the pillars of her church. So, it stands to reason that in my free time, I would gravitate towards watching church services on TV. The televangelist that drew me most was Rev. Eugene Profeta. He was charismatic, passionate in his love for God, and when he did a “laying on of hands” people walked! There were crutches, canes and all other kinds of medical accessories adorning the walls of his church liberated from all of those he healed.
I was a believer. I recall my grandmother’s church taking a trip out to Massepequa to Rev. Profeta’s church. I remember what seemed like a centuries long bus ride, swirling clouds of sun dappled beige dust from the parking lot and the coaol spacious tabernacle with one million seats in it.
Needless to say, after this trip, I was completely hooked. I thought Rev. Profeta could heal and cur anything! I began to write to him to see if he could pray for me, and my family. To help heal the normal ills that plague families (discord, malcontent, anger all which arise from too much familiarity). And, Rev. Profeta wrote back with words of encouragement, prayerful thoughts, and oodles of God’s love seeping through between the handwruitten kunes,
I began sending him love donations as I heard him request on TV. It wasn’t much. I was a kid. I sent a dollar bill either from my bottle return money, or from a random gift from a family member. While not a large monetary amount, for me, sending that precious one dollar bill was huge. Candy was between a penny and a dime a piece. Do you know how much candy I was giving up??!!?!
But, I felt Rev. Profeta helped me so much that I could forego my sugar daze to say, Thank you appropriately. So, I would mail off my letter with the love donation.
Do you know somehow, some way I ALWAYS received that dollar back? Many times, Rev. Profeta would return my dollar in his letter to me. And, my kid brain tells me that the money would always come back to me in a fairly short amount of time!
I stared sending the $1.00 on purpose to test “the system”. That didn’t seem to matter either. The dollar always came back to me. While I realize now that there were probably other gifts and thank you’s the Universe gave to me back then, but my pre-teen mind only remembers the cash returning to me! Lol.
Fast forward to today, I’m re-reading Pam Grout’s books about LOA and the abundance/positivity mindset. I’m leaving random love notes attached to dollar bills as I recall my childhood ‘experiments’.
What am I thinking as I do this? I’m not. I’m just smiling and thanking as I go blithely along with the flow of my day.
Thank you, Pam! Thank you for assisting in bringing back this memory! You’ve helped me to go back to being a gratitude and love sharer!!

P.S. – And, yes. I did hear that in 1989 Rev. Profeta was arrested for tax evasion amongst other things. However, this did not detract from my experiences with him. Rev. Profeta revitalized my faith and showed me that even complicated people have good within them.
